Costa says that Portugal is today a well-known country for the Volkswagen group, and “it’s not by chance” – Executive Digest
The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the Prime Minister, António Costa and the Minister of State, Economy and Digital Transition, Pedro Siza Vieira, will visit this Friday the premises of Autoeuropa in Palmela, as part of the commemorations of the 30 years since the foundation stone of the Palmela factory.
In a statement to the press, António Costa underlined that “Portugal is today a well-known country for the Volkswagen group, and it is no coincidence”, because within the Volskswagen group, Autoeuropa always finds itself in the best benchmarking rankings among all the companies in the group.
Costa emphasizes that he thus faces the next 30 years with “the confidence of the tests given in the previous 30 years and knowing that we will continue to work to increasingly create a better environment so that we can be more attractive”.
The Prime Minister also recalled that in February a window opens so that Portugal can request the European Union and Eurostat to reconfigure its statistical units and specified units.
As the Setúbal Peninsula is a NUT 3 (NUTS- Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistical Purposes) it is heavily penalized for being part of this region, which places it in an unfavorable position with regard to support for large companies and the attractiveness of relevant funds. Thus, the Government will request the change of the region to NUT 2.
