Avian influenza: Many
“The subtype H5N1, which AGES has now detected, is highly pathogenic for many birds and leads to many birds, especially in domestic poultry populations. Infections with H5N1 have not been detected in Europe, ”Schöchl emphasized.
Risk area in the north of Salzburg
“Because of this epidemic situation, it is of great importance to take suitable measures in good time to back up further contaminants of the epidemic in Austrian poultry holdings as far as possible. For this purpose, municipalities along the major rivers and in the three lakes area in Salzburg, but also in regions with a comparable risk potential in Austria, are declared by the Federal Ministry for Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection to be areas with an increased avian influenza risk, ”reports the state veterinary director.
The measures at a glance
- The provisions affect all poultry holdings and people in areas with an increased risk of avian influenza, regardless of whether the keeping is private or private. The following measures apply to the risk areas in Austria:
- Poultry and other captive birds must be permanently housed in stables, at least in closed housing facilities that are at least above, so that contact with wild birds and their droppings is definitely excluded.
- The only exceptions are holdings with fewer than 350 heads of poultry and where it is ensured that in all mixed holdings of poultry and other captive birds and the poultry through nets, roofs, horizontal fabrics or other suitable means from contact with wild birds is protected or the animals are only fed and watered in the barn or under an understanding that wild birds come into contact with feed or water intended for poultry and other captive birds, and that they die from surface waters where they are exposed Can stop wild waterfowl if they are fenced off so that they are safe from escape.
- The animals are not allowed to be watered with water from collecting basins for surface water.
- The cleaning and provision of the means of transport, loading areas and equipment must be carried out with particular care.
- In addition, when do poultry flocks have to reduce their feed and water consumption, when laying performance declines or increased mortality is observed.
- There is an obligation to register for events with poultry and other birds.
Report dead animals
“In principle, however, all poultry farmers in the federal state of Salzburg, especially in the vicinity of open water bodies, are made aware of this currently increased risk situation. Compliance with general hygiene and biosecurity measures is strongly recommended. Water birds and birds of prey found dead – regardless of whether they are in or outside the designated risk area in the federal state of Salzburg – should be left. However, the place of discovery must be reported directly to the responsible district administrative authority, ”concludes Schöchl.
