Thessaloniki: Former AUTh AAD executive convicted of mismanagement of canteens | HELLAS
Former CEO of the Property Development and Management Company (EADP) of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, who was found guilty by the Three-Member Criminal Court of Thessaloniki for infidelity, was sentenced to six years in prison.
His conviction concerns the management of the University canteens, during the period 2005-12, which were managed and leased by the company. The indictment charged him with criminal liability for non-collection of common expenses, amounting to 450,000 euros, with those responsible for the salaries of the canteens.
An investigation by SDOE had preceded it, following an order from the Thessaloniki Prosecutor’s Office. As part of the same investigation, a case was filed for unpaid rents, amounting to hundreds of thousands of euros, again with the canteen tenants in debt. For the part of the rents, the same accused has already been sentenced to many years in prison and the trial before the Court of Appeals is pending.
Apologizing to the court, he denied the accusation, emphasizing that he was an ordinary employee and the responsibility of the administration was -as he said- the Board of Directors of EADP of AUTh, where positions of chairman and deputy chairman were occupied, ex officio, the current rector and deputy of. In addition, according to the APE-MPE, in his apology he claimed that there was a political “tolerance” towards the tenants and added that it was not public but private money.
During the above decision he appealed and was released, as it was decided that the appeal should have a suspensive effect (the same was true for his previous conviction).
