Gender-based violence, the province of Pisa is the second in the region for the number of femicides
News that should make us reflect those that emerge not only from the news but also from the thirteenth report on gender-based violence in Tuscany and data analyzes from regional anti-violence centers. There the province of Pisa is the second in the region for the number of femicides committed between 2006 and 2020: 16 women killed, of which 10 Italian and 6 foreign. The regional observatory on gender-based violence monitors the phenomenon by collecting, processing and analyzing the data provided by the Anti-violence centers (Cav) and from the shelters, from the regional code rosa network, from the regional reference center for violence and sexual abuse of adults and minors of the Aou di Careggi, from the regional documentation center for childhood and adolescence of ‘Institute of the Innocents, from the regional archive for counseling services, from the centers for male perpetrators of violence, as well as those relating to femicides. It will never be talked about enough about this abomination of male violence against women.
The regional network pink code definitions the modalities of violence and the socio-health path for those who suffer violence and victims of violence are produced by access and derived women. In any case, the path can be service in any mode of access to the Healthcare, be it in an emergency, outpatient or ordinary hospitalization area.
The anti-violence centers carry out reception, orientation, psychological and legal assistance to women who suffer violence and to children of witnessed violence, in place of residence. They also carry out awareness-raising and training actions by carrying out data collection and analysis on violence. In the “della torre” province there are 6 active anti-violence centers (a Vecchiano, Vicopisano, Fauglia, Calci, Crespina Lorenzana, San Giuliano Terme) as well as the Frida Association desk. In Tuscany, in 2020 there is the closure of three protection structures, in particular, one in the province of Lucca and two in the province of Pistoia, which during this year remains completely uncovered of this type of service.
The shelter is a structure dedicated to a secret address in which the woman, alone or with their children, with the support of workers trained on the issues of gender-based violence, is not only made safe but begins a complex path of exit from the violence. From a table in the dossier it can be seen that the closure of the three structures on the regional territory entailed the consideration having houses equal to the number of authorized beds, the lowest number in the historical series, if we exclude 2013, there were only 10 shelters. shows that the higher density of beds is found in Pisa, with youn bed every 8,903 women aged 16 and over, followed by Lucca which, together with Florence, has the highest number of structures and the number of beds in absolute terms in the region. In fact, in the province of Pisa there are 3 shelters, in which 21 people work, 11 of which are volunteers. The report reads: “In 2019 the women admitted in 2020, also in this case, we only considered the data relating to the structures still present in this year; from the comparison it emerges that, compared to 2019, the number of women accepted during the year, decreased from 77 to 65, however, table 3.68, which specifies the territorial detail, highlights a new one in the provinces of Livorno, Lucca, Massa Carrara, Pisa and Prato, but an increase in the provinces of Florence and Siena ”.
The main objective of working with men who perpetrate violence is the interruption of violence, the assumption of responsibility and the construction of an alternative to it, in order to avoid relapses. In another section of the 267-page dossier, another important aspect is also underlined: that of the men of violence against the women they help. As for women, they do not represent a representative sample of men who have gained a certain degree of awareness, since the number of men who turn to the Centers having understood that they need help is very small; rather, for the most part, they are men who, intercepted in some way by one of the actors of the anti-violence network or on the push of partners, ex-partners, family members and friends, undertake a path that has as its main purpose protection and safety of those who suffer violence, the assumption of responsibility for their behavior by the control of man, the social change that passes through convincing every man that from the power of he can migrate towards the power to change. Looking at the methods of access in detail, we see, for example, a contraction of those on a voluntary basis, which go from 20% of the past years to 11.5% of the last visit. Furthermore, despite the health restrictions from Covid-19, the percentage of men who access treatment through prison remains constant compared to last year, with which, in fact, some Centers, in particular those of Florence, Grosseto and Pisa, have carried out the activities envisaged by projects and agreements also in this year.
