Covid-19 in Portugal: 14 deaths and 2560 cases. In 18 days, admissions doubled | Coronavirus
Portugal recorded 14 more deaths from covid-19 and 2560 cases of infection – the highest number of infections since 2 September, when there were 2830 infections caused. Admissions doubled in 18 days: there were 323 people admitted with covid-19 in Portuguese hospitals on 6 November; now, it’s double. There are 649 hospitalized people, 21 more people than the day before, which makes hospitalizations increase for 17 consecutive days. In intensive care, the number remained: there are 93 people hospitalized with a disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus constituted in units, as the day before.
The data were released this Tuesday by the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) and concern the total number of cases, deaths, hospitalizations and recoveries registered on Monday.
There is 45,770 people with active infection in the country and 2535 people recovered from the infection on Monday.
Of the 14 people who died, seven were aged between 70 and 79 and two were aged between 60 and 69. Four of the deaths were in people over 80 and one man aged between 50 and 80 died. 59 years old. There were four deaths in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region, four in the Center region, two in the North, two in Madeira, one in the Alentejo and one in the Algarve; no deaths were registered in the Azores.
No day before, there was 18 deaths – the highest number of deaths from covid-19 in the three months – and 1475 cases of infection. With the exception of the day, the number of cases for this day has been above 2000 cases.
Most of the new infections that appear in Tuesday’s epidemiological bulletin were registered in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region (831 cases, corresponding to 32% of the total infections) and in the North region (780 cases, the equivalent 30% of total confirmed cases on Monday). There were also 568 cases in the Centre, 183 in the Algarve, 93 in the Alentejo, 89 in Madeira and 16 in the Azores.

Despite the increase in cases in the country – which, with a higher vaccination rate than other countries, is not as pronounced as in the rest of Europe -, the President of the Republic on Monday rejected the idea of a new confinement. The “situation does not point to that” and “there is no comparison” with what was lived a year ago, said Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
The prime minister, António Costa, on Tuesday, refused to anticipate the presentation of new measures to contain a covid-19 pandemic, sending a possible announcement to Thursday, when the Council of Ministers meets, after consultation with the parties.
