Toulouse. Successful return of the Day of 8
Rowing was at the party this Sunday on the water of Aviron Toulousain, organizer this year again of the Day of 8 at the request of the Ligue d’Occitanie d’aviron.
This day was set up in each region on the initiative of the French Rowing Federation to create a dynamic around the eight point, the queen discipline in which France lags behind its European neighbors.
After two years of cancellation due to the health crisis, the event brought together young and old, beginners and experienced rowers from fifteen clubs in the region around different course formats for everyone to find their account. From cadets to leisure masters, all have had their opportunity to shine on the Garonne.

Xavier Smith, president of the host club will have been watching the rain all day. Announced in the middle of the afternoon, it will ultimately only disrupt the last final, lengthening the suspense by a few minutes. If the sun was not there, the warm atmosphere and everyone’s passion for paddling will be enough to warm the hearts of the spectators and the curious, many of whom stop intrigued on the La Croix de Pierre bridge. And to popularize rowing even more, Xavier Smith has a wish for this day of the 8th: to perform near the quais de la Daurade. A dream that he knows compromised by the logistical constraints of rowing, especially for boats of the 8, eighteen meters long.
In any case, it would be an opportunity for the rowers of Aviron Toulousain to shine in front of even more spectators, they who dominated many categories and crushed the Interclub ranking, achieved by accumulating the results of all the races of the day. . The A-Final even saw the club’s junior and master crews compete against each other, which respectively finished first and second. A great way to punctuate a day of celebration to put the spotlight on this sport they love so much.
