by Edoardo Cozza
Work on 32 kilometers of track, 25 of which in tunnels: new station in Albenga, stops in Alassio, Borghetto, Ceriale, Loano and Pietra Ligure
The first meeting of Government Commissioner Vincenzo Macello for the doubling of the line between Finale and Andora was held today at the headquarters of the Liguria Region with the institutions and all the mayors interested in the work. It was an opportunity to take stock of the state of the work and the various phases starting from the review of the final project currently underway by Italferr, an engineering company of the FS Italiane Group, whose deadline is set for the month of December. .
The project involves the construction of the doubling of the Andora-Finale section for a length of about 32 kilometers, of which 25 in tunnels, completely in variant with respect to the line currently in use. One will be made new station in Albenga and the stops of Alassio (in the tunnel), Borghetto, Ceriale, Loano and Pietra Ligure thus eliminating 14 level crossings with obvious advantages also for local traffic.
Particular importance will be dedicated to dialogue with the territories thanks to discussion tables and sharing that the government commissioner has a functional program relating to the design choices of the work, paying attention to environmental sustainability and the adaptation of the existing road network with alternative routes and changes to some roads in the municipalities of Albenga, Pietra Ligure, Borghetto Santo Spirito and Andora.
With a view to attention to the territory, the new design, a difference from what was reported in the Preliminary Project of 2005, provides that the excavation of the natural tunnels takes place directly from the entrances, eliminating the need to use areas for the side windows.
