The former Kelowna rocket Gordie Ballhorn will represent Canada at the FISU Winter Universiade in Lucerne Switzerland in December 2022. Ballhorn played 175 regular season games for the Rockets between 2015 and 2018.

Two former Kelowna Rockets will represent Canada at the Winter Universiade of the International University Sports Association in Lucerne, Switzerland, from December 11-21, 2022.
Defenders Gordie Ballhorn and Joe Gatenby are among the 102 student athletes to represent Canada at the tournament.
Ballhorn, 24, currently plays for the University of Saskatchewan Huskies, where he is the captain. He has six points, including two goals and four assists, in six games this season.
Ballhorn played 175 regular season games for the Rockets between 2015 and 2018, scoring 11 goals and 49 assists with 181 penalty minutes.
Gatenby, 24, is in his fourth season at the University of New Brunswick serving as Assistant Captain.
This season, Gatenby has three points, including one goal and two assists in 12 games.
As a rocket, Gatenby played 174 regular season games between 2013 and 2016, scoring five goals, 39 assists and 100 penalty minutes.
Canada will compete in ice hockey, curling, alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, biathlon, snowboarding and short track speed skating.
The Lucerne opening ceremony will take place on December 11th at 7:30 p.m. (1:30 p.m. EST, 10:30 a.m. PST).
In the days before the official opening, curling and ice hockey games take place.
