Christmas 2021: Athens, a city of surprises
In front of an impressive spectacle were found, in the early hours of Monday, those who happened to be in Syntagma Square, at the time the rehearsal for the Christmas celebration of the Municipality of Athens.
From a distance it seemed that something exciting was happening. Going down Queen Sophia and passing through the bright arch with stars that has been set up along the avenue, from the height of the Annunciation to the Constitution, you saw beams of light coloring the cloudy sky.
At the height of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where the emblematic figure of the Parthenon stands out, the blue beams wrapped around the sacred rock, as if it were a special installation.
The beams of light came from all four points of the (approximately) square shape of Syntagma Square, creating a cinematic setting that left all passers-by with their mouths open. Everyone stopped to take pictures, it was impossible to leave the spectacle indifferent.
The beams of light end up at the Christmas tree, which is placed at the bottom of the square. The decoration is almost identical to last year, which, due to the restrictions imposed due to covid, did not make many people happy.
This year, due to vaccination, the situation is somewhat better and the spectacle prepared by the municipality is very wonderful. We got a taste, passing by the square. After all, Athens is a city that never sleeps and always has surprises in store.
