The Rotary Club San Marino celebrates its 60th anniversary today. To serve above all personal interest
Rotary International is the first international service club to be established in Chicago in 1905. It brings together all the Rotary clubs, over 46,000, in almost every country in the world, with a total of over 1,400,000 members. Rotary has inspired the founding of other service clubs, such as Kiwanis, founded in 1915, Lions, founded in 1917, and Soroptimist, founded in 1921.
The Rotary Club of Milan was founded on December 20, 1923, the first Rotary Club in Italy and one of the first in Europe. The Rotary Club Rimini was formed in 1953; among its members it included several of our fellow citizens and its first president was Prof. Enea Suzzi Valli from San Marino.
A few years later the idea of founding the Rotary Club of San Marino took shape. In February 1960, the Congress of the then 186th Rotary District was celebrated aboard the transatlantic “Saturnia” sailing from Venice to Naples. For the occasion, the District Governor Avv. Sergio Stoppato wanted among the guests Prof. Leonida Suzzi Valli and Avv. Gian Luigi Berti, as promoters and future founding members of the Rotary Club San Marino.
The following month, having specified March 18, 1960, as godfather the Rotary Club Rimini, the Rotary Club San Marino was officially born. The official delivery of the Charter took place during the Annual Assembly of the 186th District held in the Palazzo dei Congressi in San Marino on May 29, 1960; thanks to the affiliation of the Republic of San Marino, the 186th District, including Emilia Romagna and Triveneto, assumed the rank of International District of International Rotary.
Today, Monday 22 at the Teatro Titano in San Marino, with a time shift due to the pandemic, the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the birth of the San Marino Rotary Club will take place. This celebration, in the presence of the top Rotarian offices of the 2072 district, including Governor Stefano Spagna Musso and past-governor Italo Minguzzi, and many guests, seeks to honor the many results obtained, both internationally and locally; for the latter it is enough to remember for all the construction of the swimming pool for psychomotor re-education in Domagnano and the reconstruction of the Treasury of the Goths. But the primary purpose of the event is to be a commitment and an example so that the new generations can continue to commit themselves to the most diverse and objectives at the service of the communities.
