There are 120 tourism projects currently under construction in the country, with an expected total capacity of 14,521 rooms. The data are in the most recent report. of hotel construction trends in Europe from Econometrics.
The document indicates that, at the end of the third quarter of 2021, Europe had 1,814 projects to be developed, with a total of 295,719 rooms.
Portugal is among the top five countries in the table, just behind the United Kingdom with 335 projects / 52,086 rooms, Germany with 271 projects / 48,883 rooms and France with 156 projects / 18,680 rooms. Lisbon is also one of the most prominent cities (35 projects / 4,120 rooms), after London with 86 projects / 15,480 rooms, Dusseldorf, with 53 projects / 10,368 rooms and Paris with 38 projects / 6,238 rooms.
The hotel chains with the most units under construction are Accor, which tops the list, followed by the Marriott group, the Hilton and the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG). These four companies alone represent 46% of the total hotel construction pipeline in Europe.
During the third quarter, Europe opened 122 hotels / 18,431 rooms, bringing the total number of new hotels opened this year to 339 hotels, corresponding to 49,880 rooms.
The report forecasts the opening of 116 projects with 15,334 rooms during the fourth quarter. For the next year, the forecast is for 460 new hotels, totaling 70,014 rooms and, in 2023, 492 new hotels / 76,145 rooms.
