Haute-Savoie. Removal of Christmas parcels in Annecy: a former deputy is indignant
Former deputy mayor of the new town of Annecy, François Scavini, of the rather discreet type, had been almost forgotten since the installation of the new majority.
The last city council and especially the deliberation about the removal of Christmas packages for seniors made it out of its reserve.
He sent an open letter to mayor François Astorg. “Each delegated municipality and the historic town of Annecy, before the merger in 2017, offered at Christmas a package, a gift to our elders in nursing homes and at home. At the time of the merger, this tradition continued within the new commune. […] The delivery of this Christmas package, this “gift” was already a privileged moment which allowed to receive the only “gift” of the year. Unique moment where the elected officials that we were could dialogue with these retirees happy to see that their city did not forget them. Moment of sharing and dialogue with the nursing staff and the elderly. For a few minutes, this trip of elected officials within nursing homes and homes was also formative and we touched the reality of the life of these people and the staff who support them. This gift was precisely a highlight, because individualized and the often gourmet content was really appreciated for several days and weeks. The elected representative is sometimes the only natural person who came to meet them during these festive periods. A word from the mayor attached to send a message that affected them directly, some years, an individualized greeting card made by school children accompanied this package […] So yes, my incomprehension is really total in front of this decision totally devoid of fraternity, humanity and common sense. A reflection and a decision of “technocrats” who disregard the reality on the ground, real life and the moments experienced by our retirees at the time of delivery of this package … “.
François Scavini ended the letter by imploring François Astorg, to “restore this special moment for our elders”.
