Toulouse. Gijs Jorna: “We’re going to have to talk to each other”
The Toulouse captain sounded the alarm after the fourth defeat in five home games last night, against Nantes (1-3).
Gijs, what is your feeling after this new setback at the Palais des sports?
I am very frustrated with our performance. It is we who give Nantes the opportunity to come back in the fourth set while we have several points ahead (13-9, 16-12, 19-16, Editor’s note). I don’t understand why we don’t play our game. Nantes was not, however, having a great night and when you play at home against a team that is not having a great night, you have to take all three points. It’s not the referee’s fault or anyone else’s fault, it’s just our fault.
In particular, you have experienced major problems in reception …
We made too many mistakes, yes. It can happen not to be in a great day in reception but you have to at least try to keep the ball in play. The worst is that Nantes did not serve in an extraordinary way either so it is even more annoying .
Exactly, how do you explain this feverishness?
We lack a little confidence. We have a lot of ambitions within the club and maybe we put too much pressure on ourselves. I perceive stress in the team, we are not moving as we should: we will have to talk to each other. Losing this way against a direct competitor is really annoying.
Four defeats in five home games when you see the play-offs, it’s a worrying record, isn’t it?
It is obvious that we will not end up in the Top 8 if we continue like this. I apologize for this expression but we will have to play with c… We must play to win and not not to lose as we are doing at the moment. It is up to us to find the solution because we cannot accept that. Frankly, I am very disappointed.
Your sharp, Daniel Cagliari, has also been in the hard for two games …
I don’t really like to talk about other players. We win as a team and we lose as a team. It was huge when we won at Plessis-Robinson. When he is a little in difficulty, it is up to others to do more. It’s not up to one player to make the difference.
