15-year-old dead: investigation against police drivers
The accident near Göriach (Lungau), in which a 15-year-old was run over by a police car and killed, is now under criminal investigation, according to the authorities. The prosecution’s investigations are in the direction of “negligent homicide” – against the police officer who is said to have driven the patrol car.
If a fault of the driver is judicially established, “will also be judged legally or disciplinary prosecuted,” said the police on Saturday.
15-year-old rammed and run over
In response to a question in the “Salzburger Nachrichten” (Saturday edition) about the general necessity of vehicle tracking, including flashing lights and the following tone horn, for young people, their spokesman, Hans Wolfgruber, says: “A night drive is always at the discretion of the respective official. He has to make a large number of considerations in a very short time – both from a traffic and a criminal investigation point of view. “
Both vehicles, the all-terrain moped and the police VW bus, are now being examined by the motor vehicle accident expert Gerhard Kronreif. The court sworn expert WILL prepare an expert opinion.
What police means are appropriate?
According to the police, the 15-year-old from Lungau was in a chase with officials. A patrol crew in Tamsweg noticed the – according to this information – unlit moped with illegible license plate number. It should have been going way too fast. “As a result, the police officers tried to stop the driver by using flashing lights and a tone horn,” says the police report. Nevertheless, the young person tried to escape arrest by fleeing.
The boy drove first in the direction of Lessach and then on a dirt road in the municipality of Göriach. There he fell. The driver of the patrol car, it was a VW bus in which two other officers were sitting, could not stop in time. Despite emergency braking and an evasive maneuver, he was no longer able to prevent the collision with the moped and his driver, the police say. The vehicle collided with the moped and the teenager. Any help came too late for them.
Investigators from outside the Lungau
The exact course of the accident is still being determined. In order to ensure objectivity, the state traffic department of the police and the state criminal investigation office in Salzburg were commissioned with the surveys, and at short notice police spokesman Wolfgruber on Saturday. The department responsible for the crime or the district police command were probably questioned with accident surveys.
