Kendal Boxers are fighting their way through the prestigious Sweden ‘King of the Ring’ tournament
KENDAL boxers fought for the King of the Ring tournament in Sweden and have been praised for their achievements.
The young boxers Jake Green, 15, and Eddie Kaye, 15, traveled to Sweden to participate in the prestigious tournament in BorĂ¥s Sweden on November 5-7.
Jake fought in the 57 kg category, was a quarterfinalist but was defeated on points in a very controversial match by the eventual gold medalist Alan Dahrami, 16, from Sweden.
He said: “It was a great experience and a great atmosphere.
“I will learn from this, and I know I can stay among the top fighters.
“I will come back stronger and better next time.”
Eddie Kaye, in his debut tournament, fought in the 65 kg category.
After reaching the semifinals, he retired in the first round after taking a real blow to the solar plexus.
The much more experienced winner David Julian, 16, from Sweden did not have his own way when Eddie at first took the fight to heart from the clock and caught him with some good shots of his own.
Eddie said: “He was a big boy. Had I not been hit in the solar plexus, I think I could have been more than a match for him.
“But that’s the way it is sometimes. I’m now looking forward to my next fight, probably in January.”
Head coach Alan Willoughby said “This was a well-organized worldwide event with over 400 athletes competing in all weight divisions. I am extremely proud of the two guys who have shown that they can fight on any world stage.”
