Culture: State aid, planning difficult
Culture
The Salzburg Advent Singing cannot take place, the Landestheater cancels more than 30 events. The federal government has announced that it will extend and expand the aid. Even so, many organizers are frustrated because they don’t know how to go about planning.
On Monday the big tent for the winter festival should actually be set up in the Volksgarten in the city of Salzburg – or not. Because the only thing that is clear so far: the planned opening of the winter festival on December 9th is canceled. It is currently unknown how long the lockdown will last and when and how the artists can perform for the first time. “It is of course always difficult to make decisions without a factual basis, because you can only rely on your own gut feeling, but you notice that the burden increases and the pressure and stress rise,” said Winterfest organizer Julia Eder.
Landestheater canceled 30 performances
The Landestheater canceled 30 performances, causing it to lose around 400,000 euros in revenue. Because some people were infected with the corona virus internally, some performances would have been canceled anyway. The decision for a lockdown is understandable for the artistic director Carl-Philip von Maldeghem.
State aid is extended
The first federal government announced that it would extend the corona aid for culture, which many cultural representatives approve at the glance. “We will register the short-time working again, as we did and take a closer look at which economic aid we are further examining,” said Elisabeth Resmann, Managing Director of the DomQuartier.
Better communication desired
At the Rockhouse, some planned concerts will be postponed, others canceled entirely. Wolfgangscho, managing director of the Salzburg Rockhouse.
Depending on which measures apply after the lockdown, the cultural workers want to adhere to them and unlock them again as soon as possible. “It is important that culture is offered. I hope that on December 13th it means – you can go again, ”said Descho.
