Toulouse: the stolen computer and jacket found by geolocation
Two separate theft cases were solved this weekend thanks to geolocation. A beacon can even be found in a down jacket
A mother of a family made great gestures towards the police officers of the specialized center field brigade, around 6 p.m. this Sunday, boulevard d’Arcole, near Place Arnaud-Bernard in Toulouse. The case began a little earlier at the Matabiau station. A young man boards an Intercités train heading for Paris. He has his things including a backpack. As the doors close, someone steals the bag from him. There is nothing the victim can do. The train starts.
But in that bag is a laptop and the boy can geotag it. From his train, he contacts his family, including his mother, and tells him the description of his thief and the location of his computer. It is indeed there that the thief is found, on the side of the place Arnaud-Bernard. The patrol hailed by the victim’s mother checks the suspect who gestures a lot and tries to get rid of the victim’s watch. A bank card was also found in his possession as well as a wallet and the backpack containing the geolocated computer.
This 27-year-old man, already known to the police, was arrested and taken to the central police station. Determined to come out, he managed to remove his handcuff while he was going to be auditioned. He walked a few meters into the inner courtyard of the police station before being caught. This Monday, he is still in police custody.
A second case to be resolved this weekend thanks to geolocation. Saturday, around 7 p.m., a 16-year-old teenager is in the metro in Rangueil when he is surrounded by four young people, one of whom is hit in the face. They ask him for his down jacket, his waistcoat and his branded bag. When the attackers’ attention is diverted, the victim manages to escape but is caught by a young man who threatens her and hits her before leaving with his belongings.
The next day, the plain filed by the victim and tells investigators that a tag is in his jacket. This is geolocated in Ramonville-Saint-Agne. The BAC goes there and identifies the receiver’s apartment. This 15-year-old young man is arrested and admits the facts.
