“Portugal cannot support companies that offer poor remuneration”
AN Coordinator of the Left Block (BE) was present this Monday at the premises of PSA Citroën de Mangualde to talk with workers who, allegedly, are being fired and being replaced by employees of other companies in the group.
After the meeting, Catarina Martins reminded journalists that “we are talking about a group that announced results raised from millions of euros, very good results both from a national, European and international point of view” and that has people “working for many , many years for 700 and a few euros”.
“Portugal cannot be supporting companies that are paid in misery”, he points out, before revealing that the BE will proceed with a request for inspection of the “absolutely unacceptable situation” of PSA firing “young workers” to place employees from other countries.
“The company is attacking the workers and it is not just in Portugal. It is workers from other countries coming to Portugal to replace those who were fired here […]. It’s an absolutely unacceptable situation, let’s ask for this situation to be monitored”, he said.
Furthermore, according to a bloquist deputy, “there are hypotheses of clear illegality, namely in resorting to dismissal, with workers who are being dismissed, but who are obliged to work a few hours in hourly banks”. Although none of this is “regular”, Catarina Martins guarantees that an “Authority for Working Conditions (ACT) has not yet acted and, therefore, the BE will also work with the Ministry of Labor and ACT to find out how this is possible. situation “.
