Cities Trophy: Marseille among the favorites
Winner in 2018 and collecting good results on the Trophée des Villes, Marseille is still advancing this year as one of the big cars. With a versatile and highly motivated team, the Bouches-du-Rhône team comes to play the leading roles.
Like every year, the Marseille team is particularly eagerly awaited at the Trophée des Villes. From November 18 to 21, the Bouches-du-Rhône team is coming to look for performances. Coach Xavier Bec is very clear: “If everyone is playing at their level, it’s the minimum last four. The players are super motivated to go for the title. ” With two young people, however far from being novices and two other experienced bowlers, the 13 wants to go far.
Legacy of the past
In addition to being the birthplace of pétanque, Marseille has regularly performed at the Trophée des Villes. Quarter-finals in 2010 and 2017, semis in 2012 and final in 2011, the Phocéens won the Grail in 2018. Since then, things have changed a lot. The winning team, the Bonetto-Riviera-Fernandez triplet, went to the neighbor of Nice. “There will be a little rivalry” smiles the coach, “Sports only” he adds.
A reshaped workforce, a versatile team
Of this epic of 2018, only the young Jordan Clodic (19 years old) will be present. He was called up at the last minute to replace Julien Castano. Clodic knows his other young teammate Mayron Baudino, 21, well. Engaged in the marksmanship, the latter does not however have a fixed position, just like Anthony Cortes. Richard Hovaguimian, winner of the Marseillaise in 2008, is the official scorer but the team is versatile and can adapt to all situations. Including in the last square?
