ABD Auditorium – 18 rue Mirès – Marseille 3rd Around the exhibition of the Municipal Archives of Marseille, Marseille l’Italienne Concert by Vincent Beer Ask and Co A musical journey from Italy to Provence With Vincent Beer Ask, mandolin; the Alètheia quartet: Claude Costa, violin; Marie Hafiz, violinist; Pascale Guérin, viola; Marine Rodallec, cello; and Philippe Gallois, double bass. Naples is to Marseille what Italy is to France, its sister country! It is not uncommon to hear an emblematic instrument of the Mediterranean, particularly prized in Italian popular culture: the mandolin. It is this portrait in mirror of Naples to Marseille, from France to Italy that you propose to discover in music Vincent Beer-Demand, through the history of his instrument. For this we must remember the rich past of the mandolin in the Italian school which is easy to appreciate with the concerti of Vivaldi and Calace where the influence of popular Italian music (tarantella, serenades, waltzes) is indeed present, just as in the works of Marseille composers such as Benedetti, Maurry or Toscan. Finally, Régis Campo’s Concerto for mandolin, created in 2021 as part of the regional creation aid program “Carte Blanche to Artists”, is part of this tradition, in this Franco-Italian history which has largely played a role in the creation. cultural identity of Marseille and which makes it the most Italian of cities in France. Like Antonio Vivaldi’s musical work, Régis Campo’s music is often described as playful, filled with color, grace and light.
