This Saturday, the 15e edition of the Fête du caïon (the pig in Savoyard dialect) has a lot of people, Place Notre-Dame. A great opportunity to get the pig out of agriculture, which still has a big place in the pastures.
This Annecy festival also put the spotlight on many craft and local product stalls. The hand press made it possible to crush two tons of apples, to collect nearly 1,000 liters of can! The small Savoyard market also impressed the crowd with its cheeses, fresh blood sausage, rissoles, honey, Savoyard beers, Savoyard beers and Genépi (tasted in moderation).
Rediscover the atmosphere of Savoyard fairs
The party was an opportunity to induct the newly elected (the party did not take place in 2020). The president of Grand Annecy, Frédérique Lardet and the mayor of Annecy, François Astorg, grand bailiffs of the good city of Annecy, have thus taken an oath of customary hospitality at the Fête du Caïon. The recipients were baptized with Savoy white by Gérard Mugnier, assisted by the Chevallay brothers.
The festival wants to recreate a moment of pure conviviality in the tradition of Savoyard fairs around the venerated Caïon and with a humanitarian goal. The totality of the profits will be redistributed for actions in Madagascar: of a part with the association of Father Pedro Opéka, missionary; and on the other hand, to two orphans for disabled children in the south-east of the island.
