“Portugal needs a broad and expressive reinforcement of the Left Bloc”
“Portugal needs a broad and expressive reinforcement of the Left Bloc,” stated Mariana Mortágua.
Asking for “a clear mandate to voters”, a deputy stressed that the party wants “strength to determine policies on issues crucial to the country’s development”.
The BE wants “strength to stop the absolute majority of the PS, and the absolute majority of that PSD-PS central bloc agreement that is now being courted by the prime minister”, but also “strength to respond to the climate emergency, strength to enforce work and wages, strength to protect public services, which are a condition of equality”.
Mariana Mortágua and Pedro Filipe Soares spoke today, before the BE coordinator, at a district party rally that took place in Lisbon and brought together around one hundred and a half people.
Pointing out that “the right struggles with everything and for nothing because the right is nothing for the country”, a deputy pointed out that “Rui Rio now offers an agreement from the central bloc to Costa and António Costa will anticipate bridges with the right” and that “it’s just a repetition of a past” to which the Portuguese “do not want to return”.
“For this reason, by remembering the past we don’t want to go back to, the left has a gigantic responsibility to present solutions, solutions happening that do what counts, that change people’s lives, and not patches for the country’s problems”, also highlight Mariana Mortágua.
Intervening later, the BE parliamentary leader stated that the choice in the next legislative advantages “is so simple, so clear, so obvious, but so necessary to mobilize the people to the left”.
“This is the left that is not afraid of being left, that was born to fight the right and the swamp of those who want to bring the mire to the center of political life. And whenever the people on the left trusted the Left Bloc, we managed to do so this path “, stressed Pedro Filipe Soares.
The leader was equally convinced that this support for the blocistas will be “again essential” for this.
The President of the Republic convenes the legislatives anticipated for January 30, 2022 following the “lead” of next year’s State Budget, in parliament, on October 27th.
The Budget had only the favorable vote of the PS and the votes against by the benches of the PCP, BE and PEV, in addition to the deputies from the right, PSD, CDS, Iniciativa Liberal and Chega. The PAN and the two non-attached deputies abstained.
The loss of parliamentary support in the 2022 State Budget was one of the reasons invoked by Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa to justify the dissolution of parliament and the anticipation of previous ones.
