After “a long wait”, the associations finally know the decision taken by the prefecture of Bouches-du-Rhône. This authorizes Coco velten to take care of the place a year older. “Exceptionally, the occupancy agreement is extended for a maximum of one year” declares the Prefect of Bouches-du-Rhône, Christophe Mirmand, by way of press release.
“But it’s for a year, so it’s quite short” nuance Eloïse Broc’h.
After the extension, the sustainability
“We would have had to move urgently” imagine Eloïse Broc’h, now reassured to know that new projects will be able to continue to emerge in Coco Velten. From now on, the association is “currently in request for grants for the year 2022 and then, to see how it will happen …”
Si Yes We Camp, in partnership with the SOS-Solidarités group and the Plateau Urbain cooperative, can occupy the premises 12 more months, the association seeks to go further. “Our challenge now, it’s the buyout of the building »Explains Eloïse Broc’h who draws up a list of questions:« How can the redemption be carried out? Is the City going to do it? Or will it be a citizen buyout? Several questions are understood… ”.
Coco velten
Coco Velten was launched in 2018 by the Yes We Camp association, the SOS-Solidarités Group and the Plateau Urbain cooperative. The third place at 16 rue Bernard du Bois is one of the concrete results of “Lab Zero”, a laboratory for innovation in public policies managed by the Prefecture of the PACA region. Designed as an innovative experience to enhance the state’s vacant heritage, its primary objective is the fight against homelessness and has made it possible to open 80 new social accommodation places in the city center. But the social ambition does not stop at housing, since Coco Velten also hosts 42 structures of the social and solidarity economy, and many common or public spaces.
Coco Velten therefore has several objectives for 2022: “To regain the funding for the one-year extension of the occupation within two months; and established with its partners the roadmap towards a sustainable exploitation project: real estate arrangement, financing, acquisition conditions on the one hand; and developing a long-term operating model for another party, ”the statement said.
