Portugal’s U-17 enters a rout in qualifying for the European
The under-17 national team was this Wednesday against the Kazakhstan counterpart, by 5-0, in the opening round of Group 11 of the first qualifying tournament for the European, held at the Estádio Algarve.
Portugal benefited from two own goals by Bakhtishat Abdullayev (3 and 40 minutes) in the first half and increased the difference in the second half, with goals from Guilherme Santos (47), José Rodrigues (49) and João Veloso (58, penalty).
It took only three minutes for the corners to open the scoring, unlocking a Kazakh barricade in a lucky break, in which Abdullayev cut Ivan Lima’s cross into his own net.
A game of clear Portuguese dominance was anticipated and that was what happened throughout the first half – not even the early goal led the opponent to try to upset the defensive Portuguese -, although only José Rodrigues wasted flagrant opportunities.
The SC Braga forward headed the bar, in the 34th minute, after a corner, following a move in which Nikita Politik forced the excellent defense.
The second goal only reached the 40th minute, in every way similar to the first: another own goal by the unfortunate Abdullayev when trying to deflect another center from Ivan Lima.
The entry of Portugal after the break was devastating, with suffocating pressure and very fast ball exchanges, and depressing the result with higher numbers.
Newcomer Guilherme Santos (47) signed the third, with a frontal shot, José Rodrigues headed for the fourth (49), after a cross by João Conceição, and midfielder João Veloso scored the fifth, with a penalty (58).
The Portuguese complete the group with matches against Wales (13 November) and Ukraine (16 November), both at Estádio Algarve, qualifying for the elite round of the top two in each group and the top four third. Classified.
