Ussi celebrates its first 75 years of life in Genoa and rewards Marcello Lippi
The celebrations for the 75th anniversary of thethe USSI – Italian Sports Press Union in Genoa on the cruise ship MSC Seaview.
“The story of sport from the province to international events thanks to our branching into the territory and the commitment of correspondents, informants, photographers and cameramen who enrich the work of big names, voices and faces”. These are the opening words of USSI President Gianfranco Coppola on the day that celebrates 75 years of USSI, a party hosted in Genoa on the MSC Seaview cruise ship.
The “Tale of Sport” has counted on prestigious testimonies. From Roberto Beccantini (signed by Tuttosport, Gazzetta dello Sport, La Stampa and Guerin Sportivo, for many years the Italian juror of the “Golden Ball”) to Gianni Merlo (Gazzetta dello Sport, today president of the International Sports Press Association) and passing through Filippo Grassia (signature, face and historical voice of sports journalism, past president Ussi from 1991 to 2002). Awarded also Lucia Blini (Deputy Director of NewsMediaset and historical face of Studio Sport), Piero Sessarego (former correspondent of TuttoSport, sports editor-in-chief and first signature of Il Secolo XIX), Vito Romaniello (editor-in-chief Lapresse, former commentator of Stream and Mediaset Premium, who survived after a long battle against covid) and Guido Zucchi (historical photographer of Guerin Sportivo).
Receiving the applause of the audience numerous sportsmen who have written extraordinary pages of sport in these 75 years. From the world football champion coach Marcello Lippi, to the new European champion coach with Italvolley Fefé De Giorgi (formerly Velasco’s phenomenal Italy regulator). From Charlie Caglieris (blue gold at the 1983 European basketball championships) to Mauro Nespoli (three times medalist in archery at the Beijing, London and Tokyo Olympics), from Eraldo Pizzo (the strongest Italian water polo player of all time, Olympic gold medal Rome 1960) to the brothers Fulvio and Sabina Valbusa (winners of 3 Olympic medals in cross-country skiing). And again Gabriele Gori (one of the best players in the world in beach soccer) and Andrea Liverani (bronze in the 10-meter rifle at the Tokyo Paralympics).
