Fifth day in a row with more than a thousand cases of covid-19 in Portugal
Portugal registered 1023 cases of covid-19 and five deaths in the last 24 hours. Fifth day in a row with more than a thousand infections.
Data from the General Directorate of Health (DGS), revealed this Sunday, reveals a decrease in the number of covid-19 cases, compared to Saturday. In the last 24 hours, 1023 infections and five deaths associated with the SARS-CoV-2 virus were recorded. Data that raise to 1097,557 the total number of positives since the beginning of the pandemic, a period in which 18203 deaths were reported.
It was the fifth day in a row with more than a thousand cases of covid-19, with 1023 infections on this Sunday following 1197 on Saturday and 1289 on Friday. The streak began on Wednesday with 1074 and continued on Thursday with 1382.
In hospitals, there are 18 more inpatients. Of the 341 people hospitalized, 64 are selected seriously ill, two more than on Saturday. After three days to fall, the total number of hospitalized rose again, as well as patients in the ICU, who were coming from two consecutive reductions.
According to this Sunday’s DGS bulletin, there are 33686 active covid-19 cases in Portugal, 647 more than on Saturday, while the total recovered increased by 371 to 1045668. From yesterday to today 784 people joined a contact list under the supervision of the authorities, of which 24860 names are listed at the moment.
A death in the 40-49 age group
Among the deaths reported this Sunday, highlight the death of a woman under 50 years. Victim 184 aged 40-49 years since a pandemic began. Three of the people who died in the last 24 hours over 80 years, bringing to 11877 the total number of deaths in the age group most affected by the pandemic, which represents 65% of all fatalities associated with SARS-CoV-2. A man aged 60-69 died as well.
The Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (LVT) area continues to be the hardest hit by the pandemic, with a total of 423776 cases and 7753 deaths, including 410 infections and two deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
The Northern Region is the second most affected by the pandemic. It reported 224 infections and one death in the last 24 hours, with the totals rising to 417954 and 5601 respectively.
The Centro Region had 231 more cases (148571 and 3190 deaths in total), while the Alentejo reported 26 infections, for a total of 40361, which resulted in 1056 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
The Algarve registered one more fatality (482 in total) and 73 cases, bringing the count to 44461. The other death of the day was reported by the Autonomous Region of Madeira, which accumulates 75 deaths out of a total of 12975 infections, 53 in the last 24 hours.
In the Azores, the sea seems calm: six cases in the last 24 hours, with the total amounting to 9459 infections and 46 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
