27th edition of GIFF started
After the festival fell victim to the pandemic last year, it is now returning to the cinemas. A total of 140 films will be presented to the public. The musical prelude was made on Friday evening by Stephan Eicher with his production “It’s Alive: A Journey into Invisible Cinema”.
After the opening ceremony with the new director Anaïs Emery – she took office last January in the middle of the pandemic – the program featured “Olga”, a film about a young gymnast who wants to secure a place on the Swiss national team. It is the first feature film by director Elie Grappe. She was expected for the Swiss premiere in Geneva. With “Olga” Switzerland is entering the race for the Oscar in the Best International Film category.
According to the text of the speech, Federal Councilor Alain Berset pointed out that the GIFF is the only event in Switzerland that focuses on audiovisual innovations and the digital market. Such projects are the future of cinema.
The winners of the festival’s five competitions will be announced on November 13th. (SDA)
