Waterfront, a journey through the construction sites that will change the face of the Genoa Fair
Excavations have begun around the Blue Pavilion for the 3.5 meters deep where there are also the moorings for boats, on which the two twin residential buildings will overlook
Genoa – Eighteen more months, up to two years, and the Genoa waterfront will show its new face: navigable canals, seafront for strolling along the quays, a new sports hall with a sports field but also commercial activities, an underground car park, two residential buildings, an accommodation facility for temporary rentals and a building reserved for offices.
“The entire operation began in 2019 with the demolition of the former Ansaldo pavilion and the creation, the following year, of the entrance to the navigable canal – says Mirco Grassi, coordinator of the technical area of the Municipality of Genoa – course are conducted in part by private companies, with investments of 250 million euros, and partly from public offices, with the use of 100 million euros “.
The goal is to offer to the Genoese a new area in which to spend your free time: along the canals with the landing places for the sports hall activities it will be possible to walk while inside the Palasport there will be the area dedicated to sports and commercial activities. Today entering and seeing the restructuring offers mixed feelings: “We know it is a structure where the Genoese spent important moments, including concerts, special events and tournaments – explains Grassi – also for this reason care will be taken in the conservation of the main structures, starting with the great oculus central which is the characterizing architectural feature, which will be consolidated and adapted to current regulations. In the center it will be realized a sports field with an arena that can accommodate up to 5 thousand spectators and all around, in the three floors of balconies, they will be housed business linked to the world of sport, nutrition, well-being and fitness. Everything will be completed by a garage in the basement and a walk along the external perimeter “.
Excavations for the 3.5 meter deep canals have begun around the Blue Pavilion, where there will also be space for the moorings for boats, on which the two twin residential buildings will overlook. The future park in which the building intended for hotel accommodation will also find space.
The part of the construction site by the public involved all the demolitions (which in order involved the Ansaldo pavilion, the office building, the ticket office, pavilion C, pavilion D which housed the Faculty of Engineering and pavilion M which contained the thermal power plants) and will now concentrate on the construction of infrastructures: from the navigable canals with moorings to the public park, passing through the car parks, the new road system of the area, the redevelopment of the soffit of the Elevated road as well as the historic walls and the construction of three bridges, one of which is pedestrian. This part of works is expected to conclude by the end of 2023 while private individuals, who instead have the task of creating the four buildings and daring a new life at the Palasport, should finish no later than the following year.
