“It’s not the fall that hurts the most, it’s not getting up. “In the grip of a new negative spiral, the Stade Malherbe Caen must relaunch, Saturday, November 6, 2021 in Amiens. For his goalkeeper Rémy Riou “everything is not to be thrown away, but you have to get moving”.
Remy, how was the week?
Remy Riou: You always have a bit of a headache after a loss, especially in this situation. Afterwards, on knows what we are missing. You have to get back to work to be able to move forward. We don’t miss much.
From your perspective, is the team doing enough?
It is not enough because we do not have the results. Defensive, we are well in place. Unfortunately, we take goals on set pieces and on the only mistakes we make. We are punished directly and we cannot reciprocate. You have to do violence to find something different. Ligue 2 is complicated. It goes through a lot of duels. You have to win your duels, and that requires a little more aggression.
Was the locker room stung by the strong words of the coach after the defeat against Grenoble?
We will see tomorrow night, I hope! It takes a bit of banging in the anthill to make things happen. It is certain that at the accounting level, it is insufficient. Like I said, not much is missing. If a little or a big booster shot can make a difference, we take whatever it takes.
“It sure annoys me”
Are you too nice, as he says?
Certainly. We let ourselves be a little … not walked on, because there are coherent things in what we do. Everything is not to be thrown away. But you have to move on in order to move forward.
Is the group undermined to see that the coaches pass and that none can find the solution for you to perform?
It is especially questioning. We understand that this is not necessarily the fault of the coaches.
You feel quite annoyed sometimes in the field. Is there more frustration in your position as a goalkeeper?
A little. I’m not a great expressive but you can quickly see my emotions when it annoys me. And it sure annoys me! I hate to lose. I am not here for that. It’s a little frustrating being a goalie. We try to do the maximum. I was in great demand at the start of the season, I am a little less and yet I may take a few more goals … You must not put your head under water, you must quickly realize that everyone has to. do a little more. Individually, I try to question myself. I’m also trying to harangue the troops to move forward.
“It inspires me with shame”
You are one of the players who arrived after the descent in Ligue 2 with the discourse of returning to Ligue 1. Do you have the impression of having deluded yourself?
We are lucky to be in a very good club but that is not everything. Going down, it hurts a lot. Previously, the club had the chance to recover very quickly. There, on sees that it does not work. It’s frustrating for an entire club, for an entire region. We are entering a bit of a negative spiral. We’ve been promised or promised the rise for a few years, but Ligue 2 is very hard. There have also been significant budget cuts because of a lot of things. It is a particular context that we have never really known. I am a positive person: if you fall, you have to get up. Otherwise, we sink and we no longer exist.
It’s positive ?
It is not the fall that hurts the most, it is not to get up. We fell because the balance sheet is negative at the accounting level. Personally, I will not give up.
The coach recalled that you have lost six of the last 36 games played. What does that inspire you?
It inspires me with shame, obviously. I don’t think this has ever happened to me. Everyone must be a little more at their level at their post.
