We envision an average of 35,096 euros per year
35,096 euros: this is what the inhabitants of the Grand Duchy can count on, once their taxes have been paid and their services received, according to the European Purchasing Power Europe 2021 study by GfK. This is a little more than in 2020 (34,119 euros, + 3%). This places our country on the podium of the 42 countries studied, behind Liechtenstein (64,629 euros) and Switzerland (40,739 euros).
The inhabitants of the Grand Duchy will benefit in 2021 from purchasing power 2.3 times higher than the European average (15,055 euros). Iceland is in 4th place (29,510 euros), ahead of Norway (29,252 euros), Denmark (27,621 euros) and Austria (24,232 euros). Germany ranks 8th (23,637 euros), the United Kingdom 10th (23,438 euros), Belgium 11th (22,243 euros), France 15th (20,662), just ahead of Italy (17,242 euros) .
Spain, 17th, is one of 26 countries with purchasing power below the European average. Ukraine closes this ranking with 14,709 euros per capita.
There are obviously strong differences within the same country. For example, in Italy, a resident of Milan has 24,604 euros when in Calabria, in Crotona, a resident can only count on 9,844 euros. Even chosen in France: 34,536 euros for an inhabitant of intramural Paris against 14,086 euros for an inhabitant of Saint-Denis, just 10 km away, in the department of Seine-Saint-Denis.
It should be noted that the study is based on values which are not adjusted for inflation and which were used in July 2021, i.e. before the surge in energy prices.
