Transport – Cologne – ADAC Nordrhein criticizes price differences in local transport – economy
Cologne (dpa / lnw) – The ADAC has criticized price differences for tickets in the public bus and rail network in larger cities. With a price of 105.50 euros, the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Sieg (VRS) in Cologne and Bonn is offering the second-most expensive monthly ticket in Germany; The Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr (VRR) takes 79.20 euros for the monthly ticket in large cities such as Bochum, Dortmund, Essen, Düsseldorf and Wuppertal, which is over 26 euros less than the VRS.
According to ADAC, the day ticket is particularly expensive in Cologne and Bonn at 8.80 euros: passengers in the VRS quickly pay 65 percent more than in Frankfurt, where 5.35 euros are due. In the VRR with cities like Dortmund or Essen the day ticket costs 7.20 euros, about 18 percent less than in Cologne and Bonn.
“Occasional users when better offers are made,” demanded the automobile club. The working models could change as a result of the corona pandemic. More flexible tariffs with good value for money would be needed. “If employees only drive to the office three times a week in the future, a classic monthly ticket is no longer worthwhile,” said ADAC expert Roman Suthold. According to ADAC, the main reason for the price differences is the different funding available for public transport. Where more public money flows into local transport, tickets are cheaper for passengers.
