Be careful when opening your emails, and especially if you think you have received one from the Luxembourg police : it may be a scam.
The Grand Ducal police have warned Internet users through a publication on social networks.
The email demands the payment of an imaginary fine
They explain that “these are e-mails in which thugs try to pass themselves off as police investigators”.
The aim of the scam is “to put the victims under pressure to finally demand payment of a fine “… that does not exist.
The Grand Ducal police writes that ” in any case, a testimonial or money are not requested by e-mail “. She assures us that “this is certainly not the way the police do it”.
How to recognize a fraudulent email and react?
The police therefore deliver their advice to users not to be done. “Check the sender’s email address”, “watch for grammatical or spelling errors” or even “detect visual anomalies”.
In the event of receipt of an e-mail considered suspicious, “do not open links or appendices to an e-mail that appears suspicious to you”, “do not communicate personal data by e-mail, SMS or via a platform unsecured ”and“ block any questionable contact and delete the message ”.
In the event of payment of money, “we advise you to carrier complaint at a police station of your choice and block the bank card used for payment ”, the Luxembourg police concluded.
