Hardly any inhibitions when it comes to online returns – oesterreich.ORF.at

The Austrians have few inhibitions about returning goods ordered online. According to a recent survey, almost 85 percent return articles, only 15 percent say that they never return anything.
70 percent of all returns concern clothing, shoes or accessories, followed far behind by sports and leisure items (14 percent) and consumer electronics (nine percent). In the case of clothing, 40 percent already know in advance that they will be sending something back, shows an online survey of 1,000 people who died on behalf of the Austrian e-commerce quality mark.
“Your own home as a changing room”
“Your own home is increasingly becoming a changing room,” said Thorsten Behrens, managing director of the Austrian e-commerce quality mark, according to a broadcast on Wednesday. Two thirds of the items are being returned because the size or cut does not fit.
Complicated cancellations as “no-go”
Cumbersome returns or complicated cancellations are the absolute “no-go” when shopping on the Internet, according to Behrens. For 95 percent of the costs, it is important that this is possible; 65 percent opt for online providers who allow expense returns.
Excessive shipping costs are also the most common reason why customers cancel online purchases, even if the desired product has already been found and is in the virtual shopping cart.
