Banco de Portugal turns 175 years old. This and other topics of the day

Today, Banco de Portugal (BdP) is to be congratulated. the Portuguese central bank completes 175 years of activity this Wednesday. It was also during the monarchy that this bank was created, more precisely in November 1846 and was mostly private until its nationalization, in 1974. The ceremony counts with the Governor of the BdP, Mário Centeno, but also with the president of the European Central Bank, Christine Lagarde.

And speaking of BdP, the institution discloses the value of interest rates and amounts of new loans and deposits, for September 2021. In the previous month, August, banks granted 1,861 million euros of new loans to individuals at an average interest rate of 2.39%. As for deposits, the amount of new deposits from individuals increased to 3,746 million euros.
There is still a way to go for equal pay
Today is the european day of equal pay and, according to the latest available data, in 2019 men gained, on average, 12.4% more that women in the comparison of remunerations that include supplements, such as bonuses or subsidies. The data are contained in the Barometer of Pay Differences between Women and Men of the Ministry of Labor’s Strategy and Planning Office, which were released in June this year.
NOS and Endesa are accountable
The Portuguese NOS and the Spanish Endesa announce their results today for the third quarter of the year. NOS’ profit more than doubled compared to the same period in the first six months of the year to 73.9 million euros. Endesa, on the other hand, saw a reduction in profits until June, more precisely obtained a profit of 832 million euros in the first half, 26% less than in the same period in 2020.
