45 kilos of drugs found in his car, the driver sentenced to three years in prison
A 22-year-old man was sentenced on Wednesday by the Annecy Criminal Court to three years in prison with continued detention. He was arrested last week (Tuesday, October 26) at the Saint-Martin-Bellevue toll (Haute-Savoie). In the car registered in Switzerland that was driving the young trafficker, domiciled in the Jura, customs officials discovered 45 kilos of cannabis resin. Such a seizure in Annecy is very rare, underlined the magistrates during the hearing.
Cannabis cakes wrapped in blue plastic
To hide 45 kilos of drugs in a car, you have to be willing and tinkering. To find them, we needed the truffle of the dog of the canine team of the customs officers of Haute-Savoie. When ten days ago they stand still an Audi Q5 registered in Switzerland, the animal quickly marks on the passenger side up to the glove box, then the driver’s door … then, in the following hours, everywhere.
During that time, in Saint-Julien-en-Genevois (Haute-Savoie), technicians bone and cut the car and emitting cannabis resin buns now wrapped in blue plastic, well oiled to prevent any DNA fingerprinting.
A fake footballer, a simple “driver”
Investigators cook the driver. After presenting himself as a fake Swiss footballer returning from vacation in Montpellier, then explaining that he had returned from Morocco since a boat ticket had been found in the vehicle, he ended up admitting that he had just served as a driver for to support his parents and his five siblings.
Skeptical, the public prosecutor Pierre Filliard is surprised that traffickers confide in a stranger, 45 kilos of narcotics. The judges had to harbor the same doubts: they went beyond the requisitions to two years in prison, to inflict three on the defendant.
