The NGO Humanitarian Alarm Phone has appealed to Malta to rescue around 350 people who are at risk of drowning in the Malta Search and Rescue Area (SAR).
On Wednesday afternoon the NGO tweeted “minutes ago people were panicking, shouting‘ they are dying ’. We have repeatedly met with the Armed Forces of Malta and the merchant ship Deep Discoverer but they refuse to intervene. Lack of assistance is criminal! ”
Earlier Alarm Phone said the boat was drifting and embarking on the water. “People said they tried to call all the coastguards but no one is helping them,” the NGO said.

Alarm Phone said that it lost contact with another boat that was carrying about 200 people “who are struggling to survive bad weather conditions” which was also in Maltese waters.
Noting that the Maltese authorities had been warned of the boat in distress on Tuesday, Alarm Phone said “shortly after we lost contact with the boat. We don’t know if the state actors have launched a rescue as soon as they remain silent. “

On Wednesday morning, Alarm Phone said that it was in contact with 75 other immigrants who are at sea and need immediate rescue in the Malta SAR.
The NGO tweeted that migrants were in distress and panic and reported strong waves and strong winds.
In her tweet, Alarm Phone added that the Maltese authorities were warned and asked them to immediately launch a rescue and not let the group of 75 immigrants drown.
Alarm Phone also reached out to Newsbook.com.mt and asked for help in this case. The NGO told Newsbook.com.mt that the migrants are in the Maltese SAR area and that there are two merchant ships close to the target.
The NGO added that it would be enough if Malta ordered the two ships to rescue the migrants.
