Residents accuse the Junta de Belém of creating parking ″ illegal ″
At Largo dos Jerónimos, in Lisbon, six parking spaces have appeared, next to a bus stop, which are generating outrage.
The group of residents Vizinhos de Belém says that “the places are illegal, as they are less than 25 meters from the stop”, thus being prohibited to park there according to the highway code. Still accuses Junta de Belém
of having placed parking signs “not homologated” by the City of Lisbon there.
The president of the Junta de Belém, Fernando Rosa, assured the JN that “everything is legal” and that it is necessary to “see the interests of everyone”.
Parking spaces for cars already exist informally in that zone only accessible from the bus route, or that “it is already an infraction, the cars had to enter the bus lane to park”, considers Gonçalo Matos, from Vizinhos de Belém.
At the beginning of last month, a Belém Council put up parking traffic signs to legitimize places for cars and created an area for motorcycles, raising new doubts about the legality of a parking area.
HAZARDOUS EXIT
The group of residents says that the signs are not approved because they were not included in the municipal vertical signage system. The parking area until the exit of passengers from the bus through the back door, especially people with reduced mobility, is also mentioned, a problem confirmed by Bernardo d “Orey Delgado, who operates the qualified esplanade in the square.
“They get off the bus and onto the cars. Half a dozen places with a car park on the other side of the street make no sense. The cement blocks that mark the motorcycle parking lot collide with one of the parasols on the terrace, which doesn’t make sense either. makes sense”, criticizes.
The owner of the terrace says that they have already presented “various solutions” to the Junta to “order the space and dignify the area”, in front of the Jerónimos Monastery, but without success.
The president of the Junta de Belém, Fernando Rosa, told JN that he “is available to see ways to improve the square”, but he does not relinquish parking.
