Tunnel renovation: Political criticism of ASFINAG
politics
After criticism from communities in Tennengau and Pongau, Salzburg’s regional transport councilor Stefan Schnöll (ÖVP) has now also criticized a timetable for the ASFINAG motorway company that will start in 2022. It is about the rehabilitation of tunnels and large sections of the Tauern motorway.
As reported, all five motorway tunnels between Werfen (Pongau) and Golling (Tennengau) will be renovated from autumn of next year.
Schnöll: “Communication bothered me”
The construction work planned by ASFINAG is undoubtedly necessary because safety comes first, says Minister Schnöll, but: “We found out about these plans far too late. Communication on this topic bothered me. There is too little lead time to initiate appropriate improvements in public transport. Now we have to be very inventive in the need of the time. “
Schnöll announces accompanying measures. There are plans to strengthen public transport and additional park-ride parking spaces so that the population can switch to the railway line in the Salzach Valley.
Construction site exposed in winter, summer
The extensive construction work is expected to last from autumn 2022 to the end of 2024. During this period, ASFINAG will set up a 14-kilometer two-way traffic area. Construction work is to be suspended in summer and winter.
What happened until now
Pongau mayors warn of traffic jam chaos on the Tauern motorway. It’s about the upcoming renovation of the five tunnels between Werfen and Golling. Holidaymakers in particular are already leaving the autobahn and blocking the communities – more on this in salzburg.ORF.at (13.10.2021)
