The start of the Web Summit, the “largest event of 2021” in Lisbon
The Web Summit arrives this Monday in Lisbon, in person, after the last edition was ‘online’ and the organization expects about 40 thousand participants, as revealed in September, Paddy Cosgrave, executive president of the summit.
The Web Summit co-founder points out that, in the beginning, one organization indicated that the number of participants would be 10,000, but in recent months it has been growing.
“And now we expect a maximum of 40,000 people from around the world,” added Cosgrave in September, who spoke at the press conference on the 2021 edition of the technology summit, which runs from this Monday until 4 November.
Comedian Amy Poehler, Microsoft President Brad Smith, European Commissioner Margrethe Vestager and footballer Gerard Pique will join the more than 1,000 speakers, around 1,250 startups, 1,500 journalists and more than 700 investors, at a summit where topics such as technology and society, among others, will be discussed, according to the organization.
“We couldn’t be more excited to come back in person. Seeing people again connect in person, safely, and relive the magic of face-to-face interactions will be amazing,” Cosgrave said in a statement in August.
Among the various speakers is the responsible for Alexa, from Amazon, Tom Taylor, the Spanish football player and world champion Iker Casillas, a Portuguese Daniela Braga, founder of DefinedCrowd, who was invited to join a ‘task force’ of the Administration of Joe Biden for artificial intelligence strategy, Ofcom CEO Melanie Dawes, among others.
The Prime Minister, António Costa, and the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, make up the list of the first 150 speakers released by Web Summit.
The biggest event of 2021 in Lisbon
PSP will highlight “a strong device” of agents of various areas within the scope of the Web Summit, with a delimitation of the Parque das Nações area, where a technological summit will take place.
Although the expected number of visitors this year is 40 thousand, around 30 thousand less than in the last in-person edition, in 2019, the authorities consider this to be the “largest event of 2021” to take place in Lisbon.
Carris and Metro de Lisboa offer Web Summit pass
Carris and Metropolitano de Lisboa, in turn, will offer a Web Summit pass, for one, three or five days, and a career dedicated to the event.
Depending on the participant’s choice, Web Summit passes can be one-day, three-day or five-day, with the cost of 9.5 euros, 18.50 euros or 25 euros, respectively, and will cover areas such as Lisbon, Sintra and Cascais.
The pass allows travel on Lisbon’s public transport, including buses, lifts, trains, trams, elevator and metro.
The career dedicated to the event – Huttle Web Summit – will run between Praça de Comércio (Rua da Prata and Rua da Alfândega intersection) and Oriente Station (Av. D. João II), with an average interval of 22 , 5 minutes.
