Officials meet back in Sweden for accusations of human rights against Iran – Political news
In a tweet on Saturday, Kazem Gharibabadi denied the statements of Sweden’s Foreign Minister Ann Linde on the human rights situation in Iran and drew her attention to a report by UN experts on “compliance” with US sanctions.
“I draw attention to Sweden’s FM on October 19, the statement from several UN human rights experts entitled” Sweden’s survival of US sanctions harms Iranians’ right to health, “Gharibabadi said.
He also included parts of the UN statement in his tweet.
In his tweet on Friday, the Swedish Foreign Minister claimed that the situation for human rights in Iran is very serious and said that she and the Swedish government have continuously raised the issue in talks with Iranian representatives, Press TV reported.
A group of UN experts warned on October 19 that survival from US sanctions could deprive Iranian patients of their human rights, especially the right to health.
The experts sounded the alarm, following a Swedish company’s decision to stop transports to Iranian patients suffering from a serious and life-threatening rare skin disease – epidermolysis bullosa (EB) – which causes extremely painful wounds. The company’s produced bandage reportedly offers the most effective treatment to relieve pain and prevent life-threatening infections.
They emphasized that the Swedish company’s decision, together with the country’s government’s actions, violates their international responsibility to ensure the full range of human rights.
