Nice new runner-up, Marseille on the podium

Sugar Mizzy October 31, 2021

Marseille won in Clermont (1-0) and settled on the third step of the podium, behind Nice, the new runner-up of Paris SG after his victory over the wire in Angers (2-1), Sunday during the 12th day of Ligue 1.

A week after jostling the Parisian leader during the classic at the Vélodrome (0-0), OM found their way back to success after three consecutive draws in all competitions.

It was the Turkish Cengiz Under who offered a precious victory to the Phocéens with a nice curled strike from the left (25th). The right winger scored his fourth but in L1, the first since the end of August.

Under the flood, Marseille, well in place, has generally mastered the debates facing a volunteer promoted Auvergne.

Four days after the late match against Nice (1-1), Olympian coach Jorge Sampaoli had kept his two stars Dimitri Payet and Arkadiusz Milik on the bench. Entered on time, they almost proved decisive with a header from the Pole on the bar on a cross from Reunion (73rd).

The weekends follow one another and are alike for the Aiglons. A week after overthrowing Lyon (3-2) in added time, the Niçois this time gleaned victory in the final seconds against the SCO.

Led 1-0 at the break after a penalty converted by Sofiane Boufal (29th), Christophe Galtier’s men relied on Andy Delort, author of a double (57th, 91st) including a superb volley in the additional time, to turn things around.

This victory allows OGC Nice to become the new runner-up of PSG, winner (2-1) of Lille on Friday, with 23 points, one and two more respectively than Marseille and Lens, which lost on Saturday in Lyon. (2-1).

– Rennes braked, Monaco beaten –

Rennes, clinging to Troyes (2-2), is in fifth place with 19 points. The Bretons opened the scoring by Nayef Aguerd (9th), author of his second but in two matches.

But it was another defender, Adil Rami, for his first goal under the Trojan tunic, who put the two teams tied (38th), two minutes before Tristan Dingomé (40th) gave the advantage to the locals. Rennes then pushed to finally equalize thanks to Martin Terrier (81st).

Monaco suffered an unexpected stoppage on the lawn of Brest (2-0), which finally signed its first victory this season. The Monegasques have broken their teeth on a supportive and enthusiastic Breton team.

Steve Mounié opened the score (18th), while Franck Honorat doubled the bet (79th).

This victory allows the Brestois to abandon the relegation first place in Metz to become a play-off (18th, 9 pts). Monaco for its part fell to 10th place (17 pts).

– Briand saves Bordeaux –

Strasbourg made short work of Lorient at La Meinau (4-0). Strasbourg, thanks to a double from Habib Diallo and a goal from Ludovic Ajorque, already led 3-0 at half-time, before Adrien Thomasson weighed down the mark in the second period. The RCSA climbs to a flattering 7th place with 17 units on the clock.

Montpellier (11th, 16 pts) revived by beating Nantes (2-0) with achievements from Mollet (64th) and Wahi (71st) and came back to one point behind his opponent of the day (9th, 17 pts).

Bordeaux snatched its first victory at home this season, against Reims (3-2), thanks to Jimmy Briand.

Led 2-0 20 minutes from the end, the Bordelais sounded the revolt by Yacine Adli (73rd) and Briand (78th). The latter, who entered in the 66th minute, transformed the penalty offered to the Girondins at the very end of the game (90th + 5).

Vladimir Petkovic’s men give themselves some air and go back to 16th place, with 5 points ahead of Metz, the first relegation.
