Indonesia and Sweden sign a joint statement on cooperation with the blue economy
On October 25, Indonesia and Sweden signed a joint statement to cooperate and develop a roadmap for a blue economy as a new source of economic growth, media Antara news reports.
Indonesia’s Minister for National Development Planning / Head of National Development Planning (Bappenas) Suharso Monoarfa and Sweden’s Minister for Infrastructure Thomas Eneroth, and Sweden’s Minister for the Environment and Climate Per Bolund, signed the agreement in Stockholm, Sweden.
Minister Suharso Monoarfa said in a statement on the matter that both countries face similar opportunities and challenges in developing a blue economy as the basis for national development.
“Indonesia and Sweden have agreed to develop the roadmap for the blue economy, as part of efforts to accelerate the economic transformation towards more inclusive and sustainable growth,” the minister noted.
“Indonesia could learn from Sweden, which has successfully developed a strategy for the blue economy, which includes a strategy for blue growth and marine spatial planning, in line with the agenda for the 26th UN Climate Conference (COP26) to be held in Glasgow, Scotland, UK in November this year “, he added.
Indonesia and Sweden will begin their cooperation with the implementation of the Sweden-Indonesia Sustainability Partnership at the end of November this year and Indonesia will address the issue of leadership in the blue economy at the G20 event 2022 and make it a priority agenda for G20 Development Working Group (DWG), said the Minister.
