Belgian pop star Angèle Budget made love to Brussels
On her single ‘Bruxelles Je t’aime’, released last week, the French-speaking Belgian Angèle pays tribute to Brussels, the city where she comes from. A form of her, now that she’s in Paris, looking back on the time she lived in the capital. The place where her friends and family still live a great deal on her and tempts her to come back again and again.
About the creation of the song, Angèle, who has been very successful in France since her debut album ‘Brol’ from 2018, says the following: “Bruxelles je t’aime” came to me during the first lockdown. I had already composed the melody and started production, but it wasn’t until I realized I was going to be out of my town for a while that this declaration of love was born. I like the idea of talking to my city like a lover, like in a relationship, we love, leave, miss each other, but we never forget each other. And Brussels is a lover in whom I can see my past and my future. I know her flaws and I accepted them. I’ve been away from her for a few years and I’ve always missed her so much, and then when I come back to her, I’m reassured. I guess that’s what it feels like when you come home. Therefore, this number is a celebration. I dreamed of dancing with my friends in Brussels, and today it is finally possible.”
It is the successor to the catchy song ‘Fever’, which will be released on December 10. She announced the title of the album, which meant ‘ninety’, in a very special way. In the video clip of ‘Bruxelles je t’aime’ you see Angèle (van Laeken) during a train journey towards her beloved Belgian capital.
