Sweden and Finland join forces to increase industrial exports – EURACTIV.com
With the help of the Ministries of Trade and Industry, Finnish and Swedish companies are embarking on an ambitious joint mission to conquer global markets. Behind the new strategy that was unveiled in Stockholm on Tuesday is the realization that Nordic companies are often too small to succeed independently.
First reported by the news site Uusi Suomi, the Swedish Foreign Trade and Nordic Minister, Anna Hallberg (SDP) described the in-depth cooperation as a “perfect match”. According to her, trade has become a “fragmenting” element of global politics. Therefore, Swedish-Finnish cooperation is needed as a counterweight.
“We need each other to make tenders as strong as possible. Competition in the world, including in Europe, is fierce. Now that there is a lot of recovery money available, we need to do more right things together and also in new ways, ”says Ville Skinnari, Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade (SDP).
The strategy will strive to strengthen new technologies such as Nordic green solutions, including electrification of traffic and hydropower. It will also encourage universities to collaborate, attract new investment and thus trigger innovations and breakthroughs. According to Anna Hallberg, countries need “thousands of new engineers”.
