Natural burials for pets: a dignified farewell to Bello & Co
A new start-up relies on the urn pet cemetery on the outskirts of Salzburg to enable a dignified farewell to the pet.
SALZBURG. The company “Natur-Tierbestattung Animalis” relies on an urn cemetery in the country for pets. This is located along the Plain-Wald-Weg in the Bergheim landscape protection area and is intended to be a place of dignified farewell.
Although the office is not quite finished yet, there are already inquiries from animal owners who want to secure the dying in nature for their beloved animal as a precaution.
Animal burial in the Salzburg countryside
Managing director Patricia Kaspar studied tourism management, but started her own business with the company and plans the farewells together with her team.
“We make the farewell simple so that people who die have the opportunity to say goodbye to their beloved animal individually with music and a funeral speech,” said Kasper, who had the idea last year when a friend’s dog died and she thought for herself what happened to her own cat once.
Are you a dog or a cat person?
“I found the thought of simply throwing away the animal’s body horrible,” explains Kaspar, adding: “Burying the animal in your own garden is not allowed, and you don’t always want to look at the urn.” There are three different urn sizes that decompose in the ground – horse owners can also request a burial from “Animalis”.
“For us, animals are part of the family and we would like them to be treated together as one for their last life.”
Animal disposal in the city of Salzburg
With the Maxglan recycling center, the city of Salzburg provides an animal body collection point for pets in special collection containers. Because carcasses and animal waste, such as rotten meat, must not be disposed of with household waste.
Dead animals are processed into animal meal
At the animal body collection point in Maxglan, the carcasses of cats and dogs are refrigerated and then brought to Regau for animal body recycling, where they are processed into animal meal. However, the carcasses of the animals may not be handed over in plastic bags. However, biodegradable plastic bags are already suitable.
The containers are also not allowed to be used for commercial slaughterhouse waste, for which proof of disposal is required. However, the prices for this type of “disposal” are a lot cheaper than for a funeral. Up to ten kilos you pay five euros, up to 20 kilos ten and up to 30 kilos 20 euros.
Paxnatura natural cemeteries for animals in Glanegg
A cemetery for animals is also being built in Glanegg, in the middle of the forest. “We were often asked about a dignified possibility of animal burial – often also by people who are planning a natural burial for themselves.
To face the subject of death with a lot of vitality
The paxnatura amicus pet cemeteries are idyllic and offer a wonderful setting to say goodbye, “says Karin Seewald, managing director of paxnatura.
“Pets are loyal and loving companions in many people’s everyday lives – this was just shown by the unique Corona period. After their death, their owners want to know them in a good place.” Karin Seewald
Paxnatura Naturbestattungs GmbH & Co KG emerged from the Mayr Melnhof Salzburg forestry company and offers various natural and forest cemeteries for humans and animals.
