Malta will become a leader in climate change reform – Aaron Farrugia
Environment Minister Aaron Farrugia promised that Malta will be at the forefront of the fight against climate change while asserting that other countries must gain weight as well.
Addressing the first climate change conference in Malta, Farrugia expressed his desire to see other countries gain weight at the upcoming United Nations Climate Change conference in Glasgow. .
“We often make the mistake of thinking that Malta alone can change the world. We need to be assertive with other countries that are not acting properly. The burden that other countries do not draw is an added burden on our shoulders. “
Farrugia stated that the ecological transformation that Malta is experiencing must be kept away from the political sphere. “It would be a big mistake to make the subject of climate change a political ball.”
22 months ago Farrugia was given the responsibility of the ministry of environment in charge of climate change. “My mind was mainly on the subject of climate change. Being a father and responsible for the countries’ plan for climate change was a tough pill to swallow. The feeling of being the minister to change the scales in Malta was what moved me to preserve Malta for future generations. ”
Farrugia said that 22 months later, Malta finally has a tangible plan to bring about change while being ambitious and forward-looking. “Malta is not only ambitious and is meeting its targets but we will be in Glasgow to be assertive with countries that do not reach their targets by 2050 and those that are attending the summit with all their hearts.”
Farrugia went on to acknowledge the efforts made by previous legislators primarily through the removal of coal in the industry where he stated that it was an important step on the way forward of our country.
“While being ambitious as a country, Malta must marry our environmental goals with the industrial road ahead. This is the future we will live in, especially with the European Green Pact. “
Farrugia said that Malta is not only verbally committed to our ambitions but also financially committed through plans approved by the cabinet.
