Salzburg beat Sturm with 4: 1 – LASK new bottom
League leaders Red Bull Salzburg celebrated a clear 4-1 home win in the 12th round of the Bundesliga against Sturm Graz. RB striker Karim Adeyemi scored twice against the league runner-up. Austria’s series champions are now eleven points ahead of Sturm. Rapid, meanwhile, did not get beyond a 1-1 draw in Hartberg, while SCR Altach won 1-0 at LASK. The Linzers remain in the league in crisis and are new last in the table.
The eleventh league victory of Salzburg in the twelfth game was recorded in front of 16,512 spectators by Rasmus Kristensen (5th), double scorer Karim Adeyemi (22nd, 81st) and goalie Jörg Siebenhandl with an own goal (74th). Jakob Jantscher had meanwhile hit the 1: 2 (50th) goal, for him it was the seventh goal of the season. This puts him level with his teak colleague Kelvin Yeboah, number two in the league behind Adeyemi, who has now expanded his lead with ten goals.
After the 3-1 victory in the Champions League against VfL Wolfsburg on Wednesday, Salzburg showed no loss of performance at all, is still undefeated in league home games in the calendar year 2021 and has now scored in 43 league games in a row at home. In Sturm, the trend is down, losing four of the last five competitive games, including the most recent 0: 1 in the Europa League against Real Sociedad on Thursday.
In the meantime, the LASK has finally reached the bottom. Despite playful dominance of the documents, the Linz team 0-1 in the Kellduell at Altach and took over the Red Lantern from WSG Tirol, which had already won 1-0 against Admira on Saturday. The LASK acted a few days after the victory in the Conference League with some personnel changes, but also a tactical adjustment: Instead of the usual three, there was a defensive back four this time. However, it only rarely had to switch to emergency mode because the Altachers were hardly noticeable offensively.
The LASK dictated the event, but, as so often in the past few weeks, failed to take advantage of the opportunities or did not exploit them. The offensive inability should take revenge late. After Manuel Thurnwald failed solo against LASK goalie Alexander Schlager due to a switch action (76th), Noah Bischof sent LASK to the valley of tears a little later with his first upper house goal: Nosa Edokpolor served the 18-year-old striker, and he shot dry into the far corner. Altach celebrates the first “three” after seven games.
Rapid had a kind of deja vu: The Hütteldorfer led 1-0 on Sunday with a goal from Taxiarchis Fountas (11th), before Thomas Rotter equalized in the 97th minute. Eight days ago Rapid had conceded the 1-1 draw at Austria Klagenfurt in the 87th minute. To make matters worse, Leo Greiml resigned on suspicion of a serious knee injury. Rapid therefore continues to wait for the first league away win this season.
It remains very tight in the lower half of the table. Hartberg is sixth with 14 points. Altach (8th), like Admira (7th), Ried (9th) and Rapid (10th), have 13 points, WSG 12, LASK 10. Even fourth Austria is only five points from Upper Austria separated.
