5G. Altice Portugal reacts to António Costa’s controversial statements about Anacom
This Friday, Altice Portugal reacted to the controversial statements by the prime minister, António Costa, on the 5G auction model created by Anacom, made in the parliamentary debate on Wednesday.
“The auction model that Anacom invented is the worst possible auction model. It never ends and is causing a huge delay in the development of 5G in Portugal”, criticized António Costa.
In a statement to Nascer do SOL, an official source at Altice Portugal states that the company’s position “on these matters is already known” and that now is “the time to give space to the debate and political decisions that are imposed in favor of the country’s economy ”.
“Altice Portugal’s position on these specialties is already known, so we think nothing else makes added sense. This is the time to give space to the debate and political decisions that are imposed on behalf of the country’s economy. ”, states.
The competitor NOS defended, in a statement by the Head of Government, that “there is no other alternative for the president of Anacom than to immediately present his resignation, thus allowing Portugal to avoid being even more sacrificed than it already was”.
António Costa’s statements arose following a question posed by social-democrat MP Duarte Marques, at the end of the preparatory debate on the European Council, which called into question the fact that Portugal and Lithuania are the only European countries without 5G.
“Those who built this absolutely extraordinary doctrine, that it was necessary to limit the powers of governments to empower regulatory bodies, should reflect carefully on this example of the 5G auction to see if this is the good economic governance model of the future.” finished off the prime minister.
