Salzburg gets an annual “public transport” ticket for 365 euros

After Vienna, there will also be a 365-euro annual ticket for all public transport in Salzburg from January 1, 2022. The ticket is then also valid in commuter regions just outside the country’s borders. The federal and state governments want to present the corresponding agreements on Friday.
From 2022, the new public transport ticket will cost passengers one euro per day. The annual ticket for public transport in the state of Salzburg currently costs almost twice as much.
Bus, train and local train included
From January 1, 2022, all public transport in Salzburg will also be merged, said Salzburg State Transport Authority Stefan Schnöll (ÖVP): “You can use every train, every bus, the Westbahn, the ÖBB and of course all of our private bus companies.” State borders, including the routes from Salzburg to Bad Ischl or Freilassing.
The 365-euro annual ticket for Salzburg should be an offer to change for drivers, said Deputy Governor Heinrich Schellhorn (Greens). He does not want to comply with private transport: “Restriction measures are not the right way, we want to improve the offers for people so that they can switch to public transport.”
Climate ticket vs. 365 euro annual ticket
From the national holiday onwards, the climate ticket is valid throughout Austria. For three euros per day, passengers can use all public transport in Austria. The Salzburg State Transport Council does not see the 365-euro annual ticket as a competitor to the climate ticket, but rather as a supplement.
There are currently around 2,500 annual tickets for public transport in Salzburg. With the cheaper offer, there should be even more. Advance sales start on November 15th.
Public transport is to be expanded
Both the Greens and the ÖVP Transport Provincial Council emphasized that they wanted to further improve the public transport offer. For example, the bus network is to be expanded further. Stefan Schnöll also spoke of “micro-public mobility”, which means: “That you can get to every nook and cranny in every community with the most modern means of technology and digital systems. And this on demand, so that you don’t send empty buses through the area, as we unfortunately sometimes know them, but really get people from A to B in smaller units as needed. ”But that’s still a long way off.
