Minister of Health says that Portugal is “evaluating possible transmissibility” of the average of the Delta – Observer variant
More than half of active outbreaks are in schools. 115 outbreaks corresponding to 992 cases (some already recovered)
Portugal had, last Monday, 223 active outbreaks of Covid-19 and, of these, 115 were in teaching roles, advanced to the General Directorate of Health, contacted by the Observer. In percentage terms, such schools represent 51.5% of the country’s active outbreaks, that is, more than half.
These outbreaks correspond to a 992 infections of students, professionals and cohabitants of them, part of which are already recovered, according to the DGS.
“These data contrast drastically with the maximum number of active outbreaks recorded in February 2021, when there were 921 active outbreaks in mainland Portugal,” says the DGS in its response.
In addition to the teaching regulations – schools, higher education, day care centers and other social facilities – there were on October 18 (the most recent data) 42 outbreaks in nursing homes.
As a result, these outbreaks existed 1,112 positive cases “Part of those are already recovered”. In February, Portugal recorded the highest number of active outbreaks in nursing homes, 405, which corresponded to around 12,000 infected.
There are also 5 outbreaks in health institutions, with 60 confirmed cases.
The numbers refer only to the continent. An active outbreak consists of two or more cases with an epidemiological link to each other. Only 28 days after the diagnosis of the last confirmed case is the outbreak considered closed.
